Sorry for the lack of posts lately, we have been really busy.

I think that we will be back up north in mid October next.

Until then check out all photos on Flickr that have a leelanau tag…there are some really good ones!

Pyramid Point is a beautiful lookout. You climb to the top of sand dune and overlook beautiful Lake Michigan. When you are walking the trail to the beautiful lookout you pass through a meadow and wonderful woods before reaching the sand dune bluff. Click here for a map of the trail. The hike is up hill for most of the way so be prepared for some exercise, but the view is worth it! The entire trail is a 2.7 mile hike, but you can get from the parking area to the lookout hiking less than a mile.

It is a great hike to do and then have a picnic lunch at the top while looking out and the light house and islands. We like to go into Glen Arbor and pick up some sandwiches at Riverfront Pizza and then hike up to the lookout and have a mini picnic. The hike always makes us hungry. Our dog Lily also greatly enjoys the hike….don’t forget to keep your dog on a leash.

Pyramid Point is part of the National Park Shoreline. The national park asks that visitors do not climb down the face of the sand dune. This is to keep the bluff from eroding. It is also very difficult to climb your way back up!

We hope that you will be able to visit Pyramid Point yourself and get as much enjoyment out of the beauty as we do!

Thorson Beach

Lake Michigan Shoreline

Leelanau County is a vacationer’s paradise. It is full of beautiful beaches, wonderful small towns full of restaurants, shops, and resorts. One of our favorite towns in Leelanau County is Glen Arbor, which is located southwestern Leelanau County on M-22 along the Lake Michigan Shoreline. In Glen Arbor you have Lake Michigan, Big Glen Lake, Little Glen Lake and the Crystal River; you are also just minutes from the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes.

Kayaking School Lake

Some of the other wonderful towns in Leelanau County include Suttons Bay, Leland, Lake Leelanau, Northport, and Empire. Leelanau County is also full of lakes including Big Glen Lake, Little Glen Lake, Lake Leelanau, Lime Lake, Little Traverse Lake, and School Lake. Most of Leelanau County is bordered by Lake Michigan, so if you love the water; whether to swim in it, go for a boat ride, kayaking the shoreline, water skiing, or just enjoy laying in the sand on the shore and looking at the beautiful blue water…

Playing In Lake Michigan

…this is a place you need to visit. We have spent our fair share of time enjoying these lakes. Kayaking the Crystal River, School Lake and Lime Lake. Boating and tubing on Big Glen.

Go to the beach!!

Welcome to my new blog about all things Leelanau County. I grew up in the area, graduated from high school here and have a love for the landscape. I hope to cover items from Suttons Bay, Leland, Cedar, Maple City, Empire, Northport and Glen Arbor. I think I am going to just see how the blog evolves before I make and determinations on what it will/will not include.

I would love to be able to post awesome hiking spots from all over the Leelanau County that people can post pictures from and share their favorite spots w/ others.

Here is one of my favorite spots called Inspiration Point. It overlooks big Glen Lake and you can even see Lake Michigan in the background!
